Yes Cacao needed branding and packaging to promote its new line of botanical chocolates. Justin Polgar, creator of Yes Cacao and self-professed Willy Wonka of botanical chocolates, specifically noted that he wanted the bars to be bright, fun and attention-grabbing –packaging like that which you would be attracted to as a child. The package for each chocolate needed to be distinct and communicate the story of that bar, while relating to the overarching brand.
Culling inspirational imagery of a fantastical turn-of-the-century medicinal peddler, the design uses Art Nouveau like curves, shapes and whimsical turn-of-the-century type illustrations. Each bar employs a different illustration to characterize its functionality.
Dirty, the “grounding bar”, the bar of intention and invention. Playful turn-of-the-century air balloon, adorned with wings, symbolizes being of the earth and rising above, from intention and ingenuity.
GabaBaba, the “meditational bar”, references the Asian crane, for its symbolic serenity and grace. It also nods to the origins of Gaba Baba’s Eastern, herbal ingredients.
Karma MellOwl, the “brain food bar”, also nourishes site and vision. The owl, with monocle, characterizes wisdom and keen insight.
In keeping with Yes Cacao's branding, event signage created for trade shows and store appearances, is colorful and whimsical. Two versions were created, black background and yellow background, to provide the best backdrop for highlighting the product in varrying surroundings.
Yes Cacao's shop site is clean, bright and engaging, mimicking elements within the brand. The home page makes use of its revolving header to showcase each bar and educate the audience on “Yesology”- the special functions of Yes Cacao bars and how they are different than typical chocolate bars.
